Waves caused by wind or boat wakes create high energy sites along the shoreline. These high energy shorelines require native rock to be used as riprap along the shoreline with native plants for a shoreline restoration. The rock absorbs and dissipates the energy force and allows the water to run back into the lake or river while the plants prevent erosion.
Our natural shoreline design professional will develop a natural shoreline using 6 - 24 inch sized fieldstone on a maximum slope of 3:1 along the shoreline. (An added benefit from a
fieldstone shoreline is the deterring of muskrats and other rodents using your shoreline for a home to nest and overwinter.) Between the rock and the grass we will install a planting area using Michigan native plants for additional shoreline protection. In addition, we may recommend adding native Michigan shrub plants to the native rock riprap. This is an excellent long term system and solution for shoreline erosion and shoreline protection.
